Workshop: Spring Detox – Lent & Liver Cleanse
THE MAN WHO ATE A PLANE
Back in the 80's and 90's, it seemed we'd reached the pinnacle of human achievement – especially regarding the accumulation of wealth and physical achievements – pushing boundaries in bodybuilding, endurance and speed. This was a period of technological advancements as well as for pushing the bounds of human achievement and in many ways it marked a point passed in ethics, morality and common sense.
Record Breakers
It was also around this time that many new bizarre feats of human achievements were recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. One man who stood out for me was Monsieur Mangetoute – Mr 'eat everything'. Michele Lotito passed away at 57 – of 'natural causes' and it is this (mis-) classification of Mr Lotito's early demise that struck me as the most bizarre.
Pushing The Limits
Ronnie Coleman was a powerful athlete and respected bodybuilder who's dedication to being the best, had no bounds. Limits of human achievement were there to be pushed, so when Ronnie's dedicated training methods reached a plateau, he swapped focus on conventional eating and training methods to injecting performance-enhancing drugs and became one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Ronnie would eat 6000 calories every day. Below we see a healthy and fit man – before the safe and healthy natural limits were passed.

At 60 Ronnie is left now with digestion problems and wheelchair-bound after requiring multiple surgeries to deal with the strains put on his body.
Making entertaining and awe-inspiring TV, also instilled in us a crazy mindset about aspirations. If there's an opportunity to achieve fame and fortune by setting new records – no matter how absurd – there'll be many people risking their health and life to achieve fame and recognition of their records.
Despite so many early exits for athletes who over-trained (Flo-Jo above), over-ate and risked health and career through drug taking to enhance performance, we still seem to champion unethical and unhealthy practices today in becoming a record breaker.
Excessive Eating
For some, shoving 83 processed pork sausages and bread rolls down their throat in 10 minutes, doesn't seem to be creating any problems (yet), but much like the denial of the truth about Michele Lotito's early exit and Ronnie Coleman's compromised life today, I wouldn't expect to see Joey Chestnut make it to a ripe old age with a well-functioning digestive system if he keeps abusing his body in this way.
The best path to remain healthy is to align with nature and natural ways of living. Daoism means 'The Way' – a lifestyle of following nature's natural rhythms. According to Daoist traditions, we all have a certain amount of Shen energy – which is our lifeforce essence energy. When we use up all of the Shen, we lose our ability to direct the Qi (breath) and cannot use Jing energy (taken from food) – which, combined together, provide us with the vitality for living a long and healthy life.
Over time, the Shen (lifeforce) is depleted and this factor determines our lifespan. There are many things that drain Shen energy, including Overeating and drugs which ultimately affect the organs, diminishing their effectiveness at maintaining our health. The main organ that supports the other organs for balanced health is the liver.
The liver is responsible for creating Hun energy – and because this Hun energy nurtures the heart, the Spleen and helps to strengthen Shen energy in all the other organs, it is paramount that we keep this vital organ free from energy blockages. Energy blockages form through diet and lifestyle choices.
Mindful Eating & Purging
As we work through this 40 day period of Lent, the mindful decisions we make about food choices, decisions about exercise and our determination to activate a positive mindset, will all help us to restore Shen in the organs, renew the cells of the body with Qi and replenish the Hun energy of the liver that supports our overall vitality.
This post will be our starting point for this journey.
Below this section, the food ingredients we have been fooled about as being healthy, the chemicals added into our foods 'for greater health', the substituted fake ingredients, the names of ingredients revealed for what they really are, practices we believed were being followed by experts to ensure our food is the best – all the marketing ploys used and all the people/organisations we've trusted (but let us down), can be shared and learned about.
We can eat what we want and maybe even follow crazy diets, but we can see how lifestyles will affect us over time and if we make positive changes now to minimise the effects of stress and ageing we can improve our chances of living a long and meaningful life in good health.
Through the period of Lent, we can learn the liver purge technique and integrate some new lifestyle changes into our routines...

Foods That We Ingest without Realising What They Are...
1. Pizzas. If you eat takeaway pizzas and supermarket pizzas, there's a high chance you are eating fake cheese (AKA Cheese Analogue), fake pepperoni (flavour-enhanced meat composites), GM modified vegetables (especially corn) and pizza dough made with casein substitutes and or seed oils, plus ingredients for pizza dough 'elasticity' sourced from China, including human hair. Arguably, this food is some of the worst food on the market and because vendors are being pushed to lower prices, we're seeing even the premium high street grocers (and restaurants), use cheap alternatives.
Two of the main ingredients used for making cheap pizza (bread and cheese), now include quick-cook L-cysteine and Soy additives – which are increasingly being used for making lab-grown meat and diary substitutes for 'Vegan' and cleverly (deceptively) worded as good for us in 'health food' products.
It is suggested that all read the links to understand what Lecithin, Lectin, Soy and lab grown proteins are – and make your minds up if the message of 'health' for heavily processed products is based on truth – or backed by profit-making agencies...
Lab-grown protein and fats – Using live animal cells (taken from biopsies), grown in tanks to make a protein that is formed into cutlet or nugget shapes. Often highly processed using GM cells and a number of solvents as well as antibiotics. The above picture is yet another false bit of advertising.
Another form of meat substitute uses a mould and glucose combined in the growth phase, to create 'protein' and fats that we see used as thickeners in skimmed milk, emulsifiers for milk substitutes, fats in baked goods and cocoa replacements for confectionery, plus used as additives for processed meat products, such as sausages and burgers. Called a Mycoprotein (badged as Quorn), the naming of ingredients sometimes links to Soy or mushroom or simply defined as protein powder, which is being used anywhere (and everywhere), as a cheaper (more ethical and environmentally sustainable), replacement for meat and increasingly employed as a marketing tool to increase 'protein' sources in our foods – claiming to offer a 'boost' to health.

The 'slime' that is created in a lab (picture below), needs other artificial colourings and flavourings to prop up the illusion that we are eating pork, beef, chicken or fish. Scientific studies reveal where the round peg science is bent in shape to fit the square hole narratives - namely that 'overpopulation' and 'sustainability' and 'environment', plus 'global warming' and all the other buzzwords used to back studies funded by the industry that profits from making Frankenstein foods, want us to believe. I've highlighted a couple of points in this scientific research paper, that should bring into question where perhaps 'trust the science' is something we've blindly followed (to our detriment) and where our own research is required to check the data – and see who profits!
These mould-based and lab-processed protein and fats products can take over a gut and with live micro-organisms that thrive on eating sugars, become a parasitic organism filtering the nutritious value from our food, causing us to eat more and feel lousy. It is just one of the many 'Frankenstein' foods we are eating without realising it. Yum!

Butter Replacement
Whenever there is scarcity, solutions are found to replace what is difficult to get hold of. Wars are one example. Economic recessions and measures to avoid paying high taxes are other reasons why solutions are needed to replace what is becoming too expensive.

It's A Class Thing
The 19th Century saw the first major trend for industrial scale processing of fat to replace diary. This product was dyed yellow to make it more appealing, causing a backlash, with dairy farmers wining – making non-butter alternatives pink. During the Second World War, the rich establishment were still eating out in restaurants, filling themselves up with the delicious and nutritious foods while everyone else was on rations. One of the products difficult to obtain was again diary – butter. A replacment was needed for the lower classes!
Vegetable spreads (called 'Victory Spread in USA), were used in place of butter and promoted as 'healthy alternatives'. Ever since, a war against cholesterol has resulted in many people swapping healthy foods containing natural fats, for highly processed seed oils, such as Rape Seed (Canola), which was used an engine lubricant for tanks. The abrasive properties of Rape Seed oil, meant damage to arteries, causing all manor of complication, including early death – not good for sales!
Seed oils need heavy processing to make them edible, including perfumes to remove the rancid smell. Studies into the effects on health from seed oils reveal very negative results within control group studies (over many years of study) and much like the tobacco industry findings revealed an inconvenient truth, the damaging findings have been delayed and obscured from the public, with truth revealers having to battle against the corporate media's advertising arm, who use 'Celebrity Chefs' on prime time TV to product place the things we're being told to ingest under health banners.
Not So Pukka
We are fed propaganda to convince us that certain foods are great and better than the original or healthier and therefore we should enjoy them more. The reality is that the wealthy are filling their bellies with steak, lobster, full cream and all of the things we love that are healthy – whilst telling the rest of the population to have fake meat, seed oils and take our protein from moulds and insects grown in laboratories.
Sweet Treats & Snacks
For those already up to date about the reality of GMO foods being introduced under the radar and are aware about maize (corn) now being mostly a GM product, then perhaps all will already know that processed corn in the form of popcorn (especially sold at the cinema), is being coated with butter substitutes and sugar substitutes. We can even buy a 'spray' online or from certain highstreet stores, to coat our own processed GM corn at home. Lovely Jubbly!
Pretty much all biscuits, cakes and confectionery on superarket shelves these days, uses replacement fats for baking, flavouring and for reducing cholesterol. All of these ingredients are highly processed, toxic in the body and will contribute towards liver congestion, blood sugar issues, heart and lung (CV) damage, hormonal complications and a number of other illnesses relating to oxidation, blood clotting, tearing of blood vessels and neurological problems.
Mainstream Media Mania
The corporate machine with its capitalistic mindset, backed by sensationalising media channels, is only motivated to advertise products that support the model of profit. In rare exposés by some of the more credible news anchors, sponsorships are still required for the media channel to reveal the Truths about the foods we're eating. We've seen many advertisers pull their funding from news outlets when the messages are not favourable to what they are selling – and that is why we must all put the work in ourselves to research the truth.
Even though there are just small amounts of these seed oil ingredients in our confectionery, snacks and conveniences foods – along with the multiple Soy products now being added to a whole host of foods (some we aren't even aware of) and all the chemical/solvent-based methods of creating fats/sweeteners, flavourings, colourings and preservatives – these ingredients are in pretty much all supermatket foods now – collectively affecting health in a number of ways.
– Cocao Butter Google patent.
A critical eye can see the heavy weighting on 'sustainability' or 'low calorie' messages and other leading 'benefits', while also revealing the negative effects, often in plain sight within the same papers.
Everyone can see now how the compounded effects of ingesting foods which are toxic to health, are creating the health epidemic that America and the Western World has allowed to happen through greed, profit over health and backed by the falsehood of 'science'. We can see how money trumps health – especially when research is bought and paid for by the same industry that wants to promote and profit from the ingredients used in our foods.
