Workshop: Spring Clean – Detox

CLEANING THE HOUSE

Spring is the best time to clean out the house of junk. When we follow our natural biorhythms and adjust in tune with the seasonal energies, the task of cleaning out the body from stagnant energies, and excess body fat - plus clearing the gut of old gut biomes and parasites, becomes a lot easier when we hive the gut a rest.

In the Autumn and winter months, we switch our eating habits to take on more fuel in order to stay warm in the winter. Stodgy and dense comfort foods, such as those high in fat and sugars, become habitually taken. Christmas excesses can also add to the extra pounds we take on without really knowing.

After the long month of January has passed, our New Year resolutions may have already been forgotten. Dry Jan will be over for many. Yet, it is the Winter when the Summer body is made and because February is just a short month, the time to take jumpers off, is not far away...

Detox Month
Preparation for the Summer should begin in February. With only four weeks, now is the perfect time to set up new habits, make a pact yourself to lose the winter coat and commit to a healthy and energising diet. With just a few simple steps, we can create juices and teas that make a mini-fast easy to accomplish.

First of all, we need a cold press juicer. Omega VRT-350 is a fantastic low-price, high-value piece of kit.

The Omega juicer is the perfect tool for making apple, celery, ginger and lime juices. To kick off the detox and winter-coat shedding, we can take a 2-3 day juice cleanse. Simple to make, cheap to buy and full of vitality to keep us going.

Three large apples, organic celery x3, one lime and a good helping of ginger. This alkalising blend will provide a healthy energy boost for the morning. Make another for lunch and either make a third in the early evening or prepare something light for dinner – like a salad of light soup using fresh stock and bok choi with crushed garlic.

Mint Tea With Cloves, Lemongrass, Ginger & Chilli
To keep the hunger pangs away, try making a hot drink using cloves (to detox) and chilli (to speed up the metabolism). Add a little honey if desired.

The teas can be made for a longer fasting and mucus-clearing diet. Taken over a couple of days, this drink is a great way to flush the lymphatic system. Eating only green foods (like salads, avocados, spinach and kale), helps restore the body's digestive system, blood and interstitial fluids back to a non-acidic state. Acidic environments are where parasitic micro-organisms, yeasts and bacteria can thrive – creating bloating and contributing towards water retention.
