The Inner Child

Image
THE STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS ONE The  ego  is an identity of our own construction which states our beliefs and abilities. And just as a  small child  will seek solace to diminish fears, our anxieties expressed through the inner voice, will manifest attachments to the ego, which given the power to dictate who we are, create emotional turmoil in our lives. We build up our ego from birth. It is implanted within us by our mother/care givers, our peers and society. We have a need to fit in and conform with those around us. It's a process of finding the right way and it's not easy to accomplish. That's why we all struggle with our ego and are prone to inner conflict when we follow our false centre rather than become more attuned to our truer self. Through ongoing skilful and compassionate mindfulness, understanding where our strengths lie and our weaknesses hide, we can live a meaningful existence in harmony, without being controlled by the ego. We hold on to the ego...

Flowing

BE LIKE WATER Bruce Lee made this quote: "You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash.  Become like water my friend .” What this statement implies, is to make your own way, but to never get  stuck  in your own way. Continuing to evolve, grow and adapt and never becoming stagnant. This simple quote should be applied to life in everything we do. And if we could accomplish even a fraction of what  Bruce Lee  did in his short 32 years, it would truly be something - as we can see from this man's philosophy and ethics in this great documentary. He would have been 75 years old today.  Link to original FFC blog post

Yoga Development

WAY OF THE YOGI Over the course of this year, I have come to realise that yoga has and is one of the greatest things I've learned in my life, let alone learned along this path of discovery in 2015. Not only has the physical aspect of yoga helped with fixing many physical ailments, but studying the other disciplines has also helped with general health and assisted with a journey of self-discovery and body mastery. We should all practice a way of life that helps us develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Consistent practice of yoga is that way and  Hatha Yoga  incorporates all the necessary tools for self-study. It is an integrated system of self-mastery that helps individuals and could greatly benefit wider society too. Taking up yoga practice solely as a form of exercise, is great for improving ourselves on one plane, but if we wish to take steps towards personal growth on a deeper level, choosing the right teachers or  guruji  is the best course to take...

Meditation

TIME TO LOOK INWARD Preparation For Meditation Find a comfortable position to sit in. Lying down is not a preferable option in meditation practices as one is more likely to fall asleep than to access a meditative trance state. So find a comfortable seating position. If you suffer from lower back pain, then it is advisable to sit against a wall. Humming Exercise Take a deep breath in and around the eyes and across the forehead. Next 'mememememememememe' then 'mamamamamamamama', then the vowels 'a,e,i,o,u' feeling the sound vibrating across your face. Then use 'n', feeling the vibration up your nose and in your sinuses. Next we are going to practice the mantra 'OM', this should be a deep resonance in your face and also internally all the way to your belly. Visualise the sound coming from the third eye chakra and also being absorbed by the same chakra space. This is quite an advanced technique, but trying the visualising technique can evoke a more...

Good Vibrations

ENERGY FIELDS We are all made up of energy. And depending on how we are feeling in regards to our physical, mental and spiritual health, our energy will be vibrating at different levels.  Japanese scientists have recently proved  the existence of an energy field around all living things. This field is called an  Aura . We will all be giving off an 'aura' of energy which will be picked up subconsciously by others.  Auras have been shown to exist through a type of photography that picks up these different coloured energy fields. How we are feeling, what our health status is and if we have blocks - will be not only felt in the body and mind but picked up by those sensitive enough to pick up on these things.  We all give off this energy via vibrations - and these subtle frequencies can be affected by other frequencies around us. Hence we can pick up on another's good or bad 'vibes' and even sense when we're in a bad place or situation. Mobile phones and other...

Detachment

EMOTIONS Being able to control emotions rationally in a situation where others are losing their head, is a great skill.  Emotional detachment  for action in tricky situations, where we seek the correct motives for action based on sound ethical and moralistic grounds, is how we should all act. Removing emotions from decision-making and using intellectual judgment, is fine for the times when fear, anxiety and purely  narcissistic  characteristics cause us to take the wrong approach. But having an always purely rational and intellectual contemplative approach could mean the emotions we suppress are taking hold in other areas of our  psyche , manifesting in our bodies and coming out in unexpected ways and at times where we have either no recognition of these emotions, where they have come from or we are unable to attach ourselves to them - because of a disconnect with the ego called  emotional detachment disorder . Emotional Release Practice Extreme...

Personality Types

Image
KNOW YOUR TYPE We are not taught how to live in school. We are mostly left to figure things out for ourselves, with some additional help coming from the parents, peers & other wise elders. The rest and arguably best of the findings will come from answers found through investing the time carrying out our own research. To learn about the fundamental factors that affect our wellbeing, either in a positive or negative way, we have to better understand ourselves and exactly what these factors are. Once we discover some essential facts about our personality types, we can strive towards living a longer, more healthy and fulfilling life. Merely knowing what  our personality types  are, can in itself be a revelation (as I have found) that in turn means we'll be better equipped to manage ourselves and ensure the environment we're in is conducive for us to truly be the best we can be. Type A+B Understanding where I am today  in regards to my current stress related state, where I...

Say What You Do - Do What You Say

BIG TALK How many times in our lives have we said we're going to do something and failed to deliver on it? Many times for sure - because talk is cheap. We often talk on autopilot and a lot of the time we don't even realise we're doing this. So, to deliver on what we're saying, we really need to be more mindful of what we are saying and what we can stick to.  Focussing On The Moment The worst time to have a conversation is when the mind is occupied with another task. If one attempts to engage in a conversation at the same time as performing another task, the mind disengages from comprehension and retention of information, In a compromised state, the person multi-tasking will likely agree to anything that's put to them - often to a disadvantage. Many have gotten wise to this fact and why distraction is often used as a tool for ensuring consent to desired plans. It's easy to respond to questions without thinking through what it is we  really  want to say first. I...
